Debbie Ohrt, ARNP

Debbie is excited about providing evaluation and treatment of neurological conditions including Alzheimer’s Disease, Chronic Migraines and Sleep Disorders as well as seeing other neurological conditions including stable Epilepsy, neuropathy, restless leg syndrome, and tremors.

Debbie works with individuals who have varied sleep disorders which include obstructive sleep apnea, narcolepsy, and periodic limb movement disorder. Debbie works closely with ENT and Inspire to help provide serviced for individuals using or interested in Inspire Device for treatment of OSA. She is working
towards her next Inspire certification as therapy is rapidly growing. She currently coordinates with ENT and Inspire to work with patients requiring device activation as well as making changes to device settings.

In an effort to better serve the growing geriatric population, Debbie has completed Alzheimer’s Disease and other Dementia Certificate Trainings taught by Sherrie All, Ph.D. Her continued education has a focus on manifestations and prognosis for each type of dementia, cognitive assessment tools and advances in early detection, communication strategies to improve care, causes of and solutions to
challenging behaviors, psychopharmacology, and nutrition: The latest medications and preventative treatments and ethical issues related to dementia.

Over the past year, Debbie has sought continued education courses through the Diamond Headache Clinic to better understand how to treat/manage chronic migraines. She has been trained by headache specialists to be able to provide Botox injections for individuals who suffer from chronic migraines as well as learning how to incorporate new therapies used to manage symptoms associated with migraine headaches.

Debbie is a graduate of Purdue Global University, with Master’s in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She grew up in Northeastern Iowa. Debbie attended the University of Kansas with a Bachelor’s in the Science of Nursing. After receiving her bachelor’s degree, she moved back to Iowa to be closer to family.

Prior to starting her journey in attaining her master’s degree, Debbie worked as an operating room nurse at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics as well as the Stead Family Children’s Hospital. While she enjoyed the excitement and diversity in surgery, she also has a passion for working with the geriatric community. She looks forward to continuing working Dr Dhuna, Dr Khanna and the provider team to help bring neurology services to the front door of those in need in the Southeastern Iowa community. In her free time, Debbie enjoys spending time outdoors with her family and her beagle terrier mix, Gus.
